WHY DO THIS COURSE?

SOME BRIEF REMARKS ABOUT THE STATE OF SOCIAL MEDIA TODAY:

With the widespread access of the internet and smartphones – and at increasingly lower costs – more and more people have been joining a global network of inter-connectivity, particularly via social media channels. Case in point, active social media use is now measured at above 3 billion users, which amounts to at least 40% of the global population!

We live in an era where data is being generated exponentially as never before. This, in turn, grants us unprecedented access into the minds of every individual using these channels: their likes, dislikes, interests, routines, etc. The inherent value in this information lies in that it essentially can be interpreted as the voice of the global crowd, and therefore, a proxy for understanding the voice of the market. Hence, the value for governments, institutions, and corporations that can be derived from social media is incalculable, and they are actively searching for the people who can lead these efforts for them.

The demand for data scientists has been steadily increasing over the years, and it is expected that by 2018 there will approximately 1 million new data science roles that will have to be filled. In the case of  social media analysts as data scientists, since the role is more or less being created as we speak, early candidates prepared for its requirements will undoubtedly benefit from a supply-demand disparity. In other words, there is a huge shortage of qualified data scientists in the field in both the United States and Europe, which means attractive compensation packages for those who are ready to step up to the plate.

THIRD ELEMENT (ONLINE ONE-TO-ONE TUTORING SESSIONS): Date range for available individual sessions: January 15th to February 28th 2019

WHERE WILL IT TAKE PLACE?

The BootCamp will be held in Budapest Hungary at the offices of D-TAG Europe Ltd. The facilities are fully equipped to provide participants with all necessary multimedia materials, conference rooms, high-speed internet access, and more.

Our staff is also prepared and excited to provide you with the best recommendations about what to do in your free time around the city.

 

SCHEDULE

ON-SITE (Budapest, Hungary):

This portion of the course will consist of classwork and presentations mixed with engaging interactions (such as videoconference calls), as well as more practical activities such as workshops intended to put into use all knowledge gained throughout the week. Participants are expected to create reports, datasets, solve case studies, etc.

Participants will work in small teams and employ various tools/methodologies to create high-quality SMA analytics reports for a panel of decision-makers.

Fixed Dates: November 26th to December 1st, 2018 

Classes: 09:00-17:00 (CEST) Monday-Thursday & Saturday; Networking Event on Friday  

Expected Class Time: 45hrs 30mins

 

ONLINE e-LEARNING MODULE:

Date range for available online sessions: January 15th to February 28th 2019

Class Schedule: e-Learning modules must be individually completed by participants regardless of a set schedule. However, for certain interactive exercises, set times will be organized to accommodate participants and instructors across different time zones.

Modules: the e-learning Suite consists of 3 modules, 10 lessons/module. The E-learning modules follow the structure of the face-to-face training and contain interactive exercises, case studies and videos that allow participants to engage while learning.

Expected Learning Time: 45 min/lesson, across 30 lessons. Overall, 22 hours 30min expected. 

 

ONLINE ONE-TO-ONE TUTORING SESSIONS:

Date range for available individual sessions: January 15th to February 28th 2019

Class Schedule: (one-to-one with assigned e-tutor/expert). Due to expected time zone differences between instructors and participants, individual sessions will be planned on an ad-hoc basis.

Expected Class Time: 90 min/session with e-tutor, total of 5 sessions. Overall, 7 hours 30 min.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need any programming experience (knowledge of Python) to attend?
No, this course is catered to entry level participants in the world of Data Science and/or Social Media Analytics. Nevertheless, if you wish to develop some statistical analysis skills on your own, Codecademy’s free Beginner Python course is a great option. There are many other similar free learning options out there in the internet!

Will I become a social media analytics expert by the end of this course?
Even though SMA is a nascent field, it still is quite intricate and developed. Becoming an expert in this industry requires many years of practice. Nevertheless, we firmly believe that successful course participants will be prepared to lead the full transformation/revolution of an SMA department, from the leadership, consulting, as well as procurement side, for any organization.

Should I bring a laptop with me?
Definitely! A functional, working laptop is essential to participating in this course, as access to social media analytics platforms, datasets, and e-learning materials will be given to each participant on their own device for learning and practical training purposes.

Both MS and Apple Operating Systems are acceptable.

Will you explain the math and statistics backgrounds of the methods?
In general, we will avoid detailed explanations and scientific equations during the lectures. We will focus on the practical applications of the algorithms but you are encouraged to go deep after the Bootcamp to learn more about regressions and classification.
